Why The Real Housewives Isn't Garbage

Whenever I mention to people that I love watching The Real Housewives (specifically OC, reruns of Vancouver, Beverly Hills and its spinoff, Vanderpump Rules) they are always appalled that I would be low enough to watch that "garbage". To them it might be garbage, but not for me.

Sure, it's not the classiest or intelligent of all shows, but there are a lot more shows that are a lot lower than The Real Housewives. At least not every second word is beeped out in The Real Housewives. I would like to argue that these "stupid" and "unintelligent" shows have taught me a lot about life and love and I believe have affected me positively. And for your benefit I have put what these "crap" shows have taught me into a neat list.

1. The Real Housewives has taught me that it is okay to be the nice girl, just as long as your "kindness" isn't "offending" anyone else.
2. Sometimes the people who "hate" drama are often the instigators because they have to butt into everyone else's business and try to "control" the situation or, in other words, add to the screaming and trash talk.
3. Just keeping your mouth shut is usually the best solution I've learned.
4. Always google who you're dating before things get too serious, otherwise you might up screwing around with a rich dude who has a pregnant wife.
5. Sometimes mean people are the funniest.
6. Always trust the foreigner. They are almost always the Switzerland, fix any problems they're involved in a blink of an eye, have the best judgement of people and their personalities, are hilarious and typically, the most emotionally sane.
7. Sometimes the people you thought were your friends end up causing you the most trouble/drama.
8. Blabbering away about how you're going to confront somebody usually causes more drama, a typically unnecessary gang-bang of confrontations that involves everybody. Somebody usually ends up crying and/or leaving.
9. The best, most effective, successful  and positive confrontations are done by just saying what's wrong politely, quickly and respectively and involving few people. Also, giving the other person a chance to talk, when it's their turn, is very effective.
10. Never attack old wounds just to prove your point, especially when they are in the process of healing. Knowing when to talk about them is a delicate situation. In other words, don't unless absolutely necessary.
11. People love to blame others and hate forgiving. Adding a semi-genuine I'm sorry for....(put whatever mildly offensive crime you committed here). You don't actually have to be genuine. But blaming yourself even when you did nothing wrong, in your eyes, makes the situation pretty much instantly disappear.
12. Try not to hate someone so much that World War 3 starts. It just causes problems for everyone else.
13. Things can escalate extremely quickly and people always take things the wrong way.
14. Humour is the best policy.
15. Try to be consistent as much as possible in everything you do. Humans like predictability.
16. Being overly honest and a straight talker isn't always the best thing. Sometimes keeping your mouth shut and ignoring the situation is the best policy, especially when it's a minor thing that could escalate far too quickly.
17. Don't blatantly lie just to keep friends. Little white lies and keeping your mouth shut is fine but don't say something false just to win friends over or sabotage another person.
18. There's always "queens" or "kings" of social groups. They tend to be good politicians, believable funny and do their evil quietly. Tread carefully with these people, never trust them too much or get caught under their spells of charisma and supposed accountability.

As you can see I've learned a lot of things from the Real Housewives that I think are important things to learn about people and how to deal with them. Sure, a lot of it is how to deal with catfights, but for someone that was always the victim rather than the bully in elementary school and has a habit of getting angry and just blabbering when an insult is thrown, I think it's taught me valuable things that I probably wouldn't have known how to deal with otherwise.

Yes, the Real Housewives isn't overly intelligent or quality TV. But if nothing else, it's a great show to relax to after a stressful week or day. You can easily engulf yourself into these beautiful women's lives and problems. When I watch it I suddenly transform from a stressed out student wearing sweats to a classy, middle aged millionaire or billionaire beauty queen who's jet-setting off around the world, drinking champagne, eating gorgeous meals, shopping, having beautiful views and homes and socializing with the elite in her city. And if you don't like living vicariously through rich people's life on TV, it is a great show for working out to, background noise or just zoning out to. As well, I think it would be very interesting to study from a psychologist's or sociologist's point of view.

What do you think of reality TV in general? Love it? Hate it? Crap or interesting? Tell me in the comments, I'd love to hear from you!

5 Products Mini Review

Wow. My first ever product review. I never thought I'd ever only write about fashion, beauty and lifestyle, but as of lately, I have been. But don't worry, one of these days I'll find something to complain about or write a short story about. Haha.

I often find that product reviews are a little sparse, so instead of doing a simple product review, I decided to review five products briefly that I've recently purchased for spring and summer.

Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Beauty Balm

I was really excited to try this as I have never used a BB cream or tinted moisturizer ever in my life, but I'm a little disappointed, I must say. It did do everything the package claimed it would do, which is great and I love that it has SPF 30. I thought it would be more of a cream, but it was super liquid-y, which I was not expecting at all. I knew that it wouldn't have great coverage, but I was definitely expecting a bit more coverage. I feel like you need to have really good skin for it to work well for you, which I do not have. That said, it felt pretty buildable and if you put a lot on, you could possibly get a decent medium coverage. It also didn't last long, which I don't like. I really like the packaging and this will be awesome for traveling in the summer as it's a tiny bottle and is only 30 mL so you could take it on a carry-on. Overall, my first impression wasn't great, but I do think I'll get lots of use out of it in the summer none the less.

NYC Color Wheel Mosaic Face Powder in #724A All Over Bronze Glow

I already have one of these in Rose Glow which is a peachy-pink blush with a bit of bronzer in it and I love it. I went for the all bronze one this time and I like it just as much. I've never really used bronzer before and this is a really good shade for me. It's not orange at all, it's light but buildable and I think it would suit most fair skinned people quite nicely.

Covergirl Clump Crusher by Lashblast Mascara

This mascara works very well for my lashes. It doesn't make my eyelashes really intense and enhances them perfectly. I also really like brush. It's normal sized with fine bristles and is curved a bit which I really like.

NYX Black Brown Eye and Eyebrow Pencil

This is closer to black then I would normally go, but none the less I really like this formula and the colour works fine for me.

Rimmel London Glam Eyes HD 5 Colour Eye Shadow in #027 Brick Lane

I really like this palette. I really like the three gold/bronze/brown colours for just everyday either each on their own or together in a bit of a smokey eye. I also like the dark brown/black colour as an eyeliner. The colours are pretty pigmented but are buildable so you can go very subtle or dramatic. My only problem with it is the light champagne/pink colour. It's way too sparkly and pigmented.

These are some products I'm currently testing and mostly enjoying. What are some products that you're currently testing out or eyeing up for spring and summer? Happy Easter!

#2014BloggerChallenge: Spring OOTD

I can't believe I'm actually doing one of these posts. I never thought I'd see the day where I post an OOTD, but here I am. One of the goals of the #2014BloggerChallenge was to expand each blogger's horizons and I guess this is one of my horizons.

One of the reasons I never do OOTDs is because the photography aspect of it just doesn't fit into my schedule. But last week I had part of the day off school, it was sunny and everyone else was out of the house. (What are the odds?) I also happened to be wearing a spring-y outfit that I was really liking that day.

You're probably thinking, wow, that's a really boring outfit. Yes it is. But it's simple and there's something about a t-shirt and jeans that just screams warm weather to me.

My Everyday Makeup Routine

Hello all! Today I will be sharing with you what I put on my face pretty well every morning. If I have a bit more time I will put on a few more products, but for the most part this is what I put on my face:

After washing, toning and moisturizing my face, I start of by using Covergirl's Clean Whipped Creme Foundation in #305. If I'm really short on time I just use this over any blemishes and under my eyes as more of a concealer, but if I have more time I use it as more of foundation to even out my entire face. I usually just use my hands to apply but occasionally I have used a damp makeup sponge and that's worked just as well.

Next, I brush Rimmel London's Stay Matte Long Lasting Pressed Powder in #003 Natural with my big, fluffy brush to even out any places I've missed and lock in my foundation for the day.
Extra tip: I find that sometimes this pressed powder likes to attach to flaky, dry bits of skin. Not pretty. So after I finish my makeup and I notice this has occurred, I will put more moisturizer over my entire face to make it look more natural and get rid of any gross, dry patches. If I also happen to have a bit more time I will brush New York Color's Color Wheel Mosaic Face Powder in #725A Rose Glow on my cheeks. I naturally have quite pink skin so I rarely use blush but this is a very light peachy-pink colour that just adds a bit of colour to my skin.

After my skin becomes blemish-free and glowing, I quickly line my eyes with New York Color's Kohl Brow/Eyeliner Pencil in #922 Dark Brown. If I happen to have a bit more time, I've been using Covergirl's Flamed Out Shadow Pencil in Ginger Flame and using it all over my lids. I then make my eyelashes voluminous, dark and long with Covergirl's Professional All-in-One Mascara in Black.

By this point, I should usually already be out the door and I just put on whatever lip balm I have sitting around, which lately has been the grapefruit-flavoured no-name brand one that is pictured.

I hope you enjoyed this post. I think I'm going to do another one in the near future of what I do on days when I have more time/have important things going on/want to look good for like 15 hours of the day therefore load on the makeup.

Cheerio!

#2014BloggerChallenge: Insta-March (Kind Of)

For the 7th 2014 Blogger Challenge we were asked to do a day or week in the life. Since I already kind of did that here, here and here. So instead, I've decided I would do the highlights of the last month in pictures.

I know this is a little repetitive as a lot of these photos were in earlier posts awhile ago. But none the less I hope you enjoyed them! I hope you guys aren't getting pranked too much today and are enjoying the beginning of April :)
